How to DIY clip-in extensions?

Clip-in extensions, also known as clip-in weaves, come in a set of hair extensions of different widths that attach to natural hair via pressure clips. The pressure clips are tightly sewn into each weft and typically have been dyed into the shade that is close to the hair. So these hair extensions can attach securely to natural hair and provide a natural hair look. It's one of the most convenient and safest ways to add length and volume to natural hair.

Can you turn hair wefts into clip-in extensions?

Sure, no problem. If you already have some idle hair weaves at home, you can turn them into clip-in extensions at home by yourself. So that you can save money.

2 Steps to DIY clip-in hair extensions:

One set of clip-in extensions includes different widths of hair wefts that are sewn with several clips, typically ranging from 1-5 clips varying on the weft widths. For a more natural result and longer duration, we suggest you use 100% human hair weave instead of synthetic hair. And buy pressure clips that are the same color as your hair weaves.

Here are steps for you to DIY clip-in hair extensions:

Items you need to prepare in advance:

Human hair wefts (2 bundles);

Extension clips (32 extension clips);

A pair of sharp scissors;

Thread and needle;

Soft tape measure;

Step 1: Measure and cut the hair weft

One set of clip-in hair extensions contains 4 pieces of 2 clips type (2x3" weft, 2x4" weft), 2 pieces of 3 clips type (2x7" weft), 2 pieces of 4 clips type (2x9" weft), 2 pieces of 5 clips type (2x10" weft). Measure your hair wefts with a soft tape, and cut the hair wefts into 10 smaller pieces with a pair of scissors. These are for your reference. You don't have to follow these sizes to the letter. You can adjust it to match your head size. You can measure and cut 4 smaller pieces that cover from ear to ear, and 4 small pieces shorter.

Step 2: Sew the clips

Pick an invisible thread that matches your hair color. 3"-4" Wefts should have 2 clips/ weft, 7" wefts should have 3 clips/ weft, 9" wefts should have 4 clips/ weft, and 10" wefts should have 5 clips/ weft. Position the clips on the top of the hair weft. Use thread and needle to sew the clips onto the top of the pieces. Make sure the clips can be completely covered by the weft.

Now your clip-in extensions are already finished. And you can rock it now.

How to put on clip-in hair extensions?

Clip-in extensions are a protective method to add volume and length to natural hair within 2-5 minutes.

Here are the steps to installing clip-in extensions.

Step 1: Prepare your natural hair
Deeply wash your natural hair and blow it dry with the lowest heat setting. Use a comb to brush and detangle your hair.

Step 2: Section your natural hair
Use a rat-tail comb or your fingers to make a horizontal part along the nape of your neck. Use a clip to secure this section of hair on the crown.

Step 2: Clip in hair extensions

Position a piece of clip-in extension along the part and clip it down to attach to your natural hair. Undo your section hair and make a horizontal part again. Continue to clip in longer pieces of hair extensions until you finish a full head of clip-ins.

Step 3: Blend and style your hair

Use a wide-tooth comb to blend the extensions with your natural hair. And now you can style the extensions as you would on natural hair. You can simply make a neat ponytail, braid a plait, or make two mini buns.
